Returning to O Comic Con
From Cosplay to Convention Table
A decade ago, I walked through the doors of the inaugural O Comic Con with my younger sister—dressed as Android 17 and 18. And despite my horribly fake and itchy wig making me look more like the oldest sister, I had a great time.
This year, however, I’ll return as something else: an author.
Joining the incredibly talented sci-fi author Dawn Ross, I’ll be selling my books at a comic convention for the very first time. I’m excited, hopeful, and honestly curious to see what happens, because this convention marks quite a few meaningful moments for me.
For starters, this will be the biggest event I’ve ever attended as an author. Even more surreal, though, is that I’ll finally get to meet the person who inspired me to self-publish in the first place.
Back in 2020, Dawn and I “met” on Twitter. After I shared some frustrations about querying, she encouraged me to seriously look into the indie publishing route. Since then, she’s consistently checked in on me, offered advice, and now she’s helping me test the convention waters as well.
For lovers of space opera, I highly recommend checking out her Dragon Spawn Chronicles. I won’t spoil anything, but book one had such a unique hook: a galaxy not dominated by humans, but solely inhabited by them.
Like I said, we’ve spoken plenty over the years, but this will be the first time we’ve actually met face-to-face.
As for O Comic Con itself, this year marks its 10th anniversary. I attended the first couple conventions back when everything still felt brand new, and I remember the excitement surrounding them even then. Now they’re pulling out all the stops, regularly announcing major guests—including a Hocus Pocus cast reunion.
Come to think of it, it was not long after attending that first convention that I started writing my first book.
Funny how things come full circle sometimes.
Anyway, more details will come as we get closer, but I wanted to share the update because I’m genuinely excited for this one. And who knows—maybe I’ll see some of you there too.
